The vehicles with steam-powered engines were considered already in the seventeenth century. The Flemish priest, Ferdinand Verbiest introduced reportedly to the Chinese emperor a steam-powered vehicle in 1678, but there is no evidence of that. For this reason, the first recognized car constructor is Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot, who presented his car in 1769.
The next significant period in the history of the car, is the beginning of the 70s of the nineteenth century. Back then, Siegfried Marcus constructed the first car for liquid fuel: gasoline.
It is not certain who should be awarded the palm in the construction of the internal combustion engine. Probably independently, almost simultaneously a number of German engineers did it. Karl Benz invented the first car in Mannheim in 1885 and later received a patent and started production in 1888. Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Stuttgart in 1889 designed a vehicle operating on a similar basis. Cars can be bought now in stores or on the car auctions.
